A few months ago, we hosted a customer event at the roastery. We wanted a coffee-based cocktail, something simple to serve, tasty, and that would really show off our Nitro Cold Brew cans. So we got in touch with Sandro Roth, two-time Swiss Coffee in Good Spirit champion, a competition that blends barista technique with bartender creativity. He suggested the Cold Brew Spritz without hesitation.

We tested it. We served it. And honestly, we haven't really recovered since.

Why this cocktail works

Cold Brew has something few other coffees do: a smooth bitterness, often chocolatey or fruity notes, and a texture that's a bit fuller than diluted espresso. It holds its own in a glass, it doesn't get lost behind the other flavours.

Aperol brings that orangey side, slightly bitter too, with its signature sweetness to balance things out. Cane syrup rounds everything off. And the tonic adds lightness, fizz, and a little extra herbal bitterness.

The result: a refreshing cocktail with character that doesn't require any special equipment. No shaker needed, no Japanese bar spoon either. Just a glass, some ice cubes, and you're good to go.

The recipe

Ingredients for one glass

  • 10 ml cane syrup
  • 30 ml Aperol
  • 30 ml Nitro Cold Brew Chronic.
  • Tonic water, to top up
  • A dash of Cold Brew to finish

Step by step

  1. Fill your glass with ice cubes. Be generous, it matters.
  2. Pour the cane syrup into the bottom first.
  3. Add the 30 ml of Aperol and the 30 ml of Cold Brew.
  4. Top up with the tonic of your choice, stir gently with a spoon.
  5. Pour a small dash of Cold Brew on top just before serving, it creates a nice gradient and boosts the coffee flavour on the first sip.

A little variation: you can swap the classic cane syrup for a homemade black tea syrup. Earl Grey or a smoked tea, for example, adds an interesting aromatic layer without making the recipe more complicated.
